Brief Introduction
Law School of Henan University originated from Henan Law and politics School of 1907, and later it went through Henan Special School of Law and politics(1912), National Fifth Law School of Zhongshan University (1929), Provincial Law School of Henan University, National Law School of Henan University(1942). In 1985, the law discipline was resumed and began to enroll students. In 1996, the Law School of Henan University was re-established.
In 2012, the Law School was approved as a national education and training base for outstanding legal talents, an education and training base for foreign legal talents in Henan Province, and a national law education and practicing base. Now it is a provincial first-class key discipline of Henan Province, with authorization points in an undergraduate major, a law master's degree of first-class discipline, a Juris Master's degree, and a doctoral degree of second-class discipline in history of judicial civilization, 7 research institutes (centers,bases), and a provincial-level excellent course, a demonstration class of provincial bilingual teaching, a provincial teaching team, a professional comprehensive reform pilot project. There are more than 800 full-time undergraduate students and more than 200 graduate students in Law School of Henan University.
The Law School of Henan University has 73 faculty members and 65 full-time teachers, including 14 professors, accounting for 21.5% of the teachers, 25 associate professors, accounting for 38.5%. 44 teachers have doctor degree, accounting for 67.7%. Wu Zumou, the first dean of the post-reconstruction of law discipline, is a famous legal educator in China, and he enjoys high prestige in the academic circle and was awarded the honorary title of “National Experts with Outstanding Contributions” by the State Council and enjoys special allowances from the State Council. The Introduction to Law edited by Mr. Wu is a national-level planning textbook for the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" and "Twelfth Five-Year Plan", with a circulation of more than 6 million copies. Professor Chen Jingliang, the first dean of Law School, is a famous legal history scholar in China, and his research on the legal system of the Song Dynasty is leading in China. The former Dean, Professor Wu Zeyong is a relatively influential young scholar in procedural law in China. He has won the Huo Yingdong Young Teacher Fund and the German Humboldt Scholarship, and won the honor title of the first session “Top Ten Excellent Young and Middle-aged Jurists in Henan Province” (ranked first). Professor Cai Jun is the current dean of the Law School. He is a scholar in young criminologist and criminal law in China. He was selected as one of the first session “100 outstanding young talents in social science theory” in Henan Province, and the Science and Technology Innovation Talent Support Program in Universities and Colleges in Henan province (Humanities and Social Sciences), he is also the academic and technical leader of the Department of Education of Henan Province. He is also the standing director of the Henan Law Society, the director of the Research Association of China’s Criminal Law, the director of the Research Association of China’s Law Journal , the director of the Research Association China’s Law Education, and the director of the Research Association of China Criminology. In 2016, Professor Cai Jun was awarded the title of the second session “Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Jurist” in Henan Province. Professor Cui Binglu is the current Party committee secretary of Law School. He is a well-known economic law expert in Henan Province, and is also the standing director of Henan Law Society, the director of Research Association of China’s Economic Law, the director of Research Association of China’s Law Education, the president of the Henan Legal Advisory Association, and the vice president of Henan Research Association of Economic Law and other academic positions.
The academic atmosphere of the law school is rich and its research results are outstanding. In the past five years, the teachers of law school have been awarded 11 national social science funds, covering general projects, youth projects and post-finance projects. Up to now, the Law School has a total of 17 teachers who are responsible for 18 national social science funds, covering 30% of full-time teachers, which fully demonstrate the scientific research power of our Law School. It is approved 31 provincial and ministerial-level key projects of the Humanities and Social Sciences of Key Research Base by Ministry of Education. The total project funding is 7.095 million yuan, longitudinal research funding is 5.315 million yuan, and longitudinal research funding of every full-time teachers is 24,000 yuan. Law school has won 12 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research awards, including 7 Second Class Prizes and 5 Third Class Prizes, and 25 department and bureau-level research awards. 158 papers from Law School have been published in core journals such as CSSCI, most of which were published in the CLSCI source journals of law. Among them, 5 papers were published in Chinese Journal of Law and China Legal Science, ranking first in Henan province. Law School pays attention to foreign academic exchanges. In the past five years, it has hosted more than 40 international and domestic academic conferences, and invited famous scholars home and abroad giving more than 130 times lectures, including Professor Chen Guangzhong, Professor Zhang Wenxian, Professor Zhao Bingzhi, Professor Cui Jianyuan and Professor Zhang Weiping.
